Vintage cake stands

Brides magazine shoot 2009
I saw this picture above on Daisy Pink Cupcakes' blog under the title "Vintage wedding ideas" and fell in love. I just love the shot above of the vintage dessert stand set in a cupboard. The shelves are full of yummy pies and cakes on vintage cake stands, all labeled beautifully to match the lining paper at the back of the armoire. The shabby chic "Grandma's famous Cherry Pies" sign is so cute.

The photo comes from a shoot for Brides Northern California magazine for their Fall/Winter issue out on September 1, 2009. I thought it would be great inspiration for my Christmas table so I have started looking for vintage cake stands and bowls to add to my collection.

Here are a few that I have my eye on:

Rice melamine cake plates

Lisbeth Dahl cake plates

Pastel dessert bowls from Anthropologie

Lisbeth Dahl lavender cake stands

Pastel cake stands from John Lewis

Glass cake stands from Dot Com gift shop

Pressed glass cake stands from Amazon

More to come on this later......

Have a sweet day! x

  1. What a lovely idea for the holidays - a collection of beautifully presented cakes! I believe I would skip dinner and just want to sample every yummy dessert. I know where all the children will be hovering...

  2. Oh I Love cake stands, particularly when they have those lovely covers. The unfortunate thing is the cake gets eaten much more quickly and there's usually none left for me

  4. Torie! I remember seeing this and fell in LOVE!

I have a post on Monday that talks about one of my favorite Cake Plate makers....Mosser Glass. Check my post on Monday - it is the Jadeite stand (also featured in Daisy Pink Cupcake's photo on the 3rd shelf)

Can't wait to see how you turn these treasures into your Christmas Decor...I simply ADORE cake plates...have a collection - and am always on the hunt for more!

    Hugs from California - Tracy.

  16. Your piccies are gorgeous. Like all the others I too love cake stands and am lucky to have 3 antique glass ones that belonged to my nan.

However I have my eye on this one at Ikea as it has a glass domed lid so keeps the cakes fresh! And it is only £12.99!! See link below. xx

  32. I just adore cake stands! I saw the cutest idea somewhere (that slips my mind) where they made their own by taking smaller plates and gluing them to old milk vases or candle stands -- it comes out just darling!
