Old fashioned candy

Strawberry bonbons
Rhubarb & custard, strawberry bonbons, and milk bottles: retro candy is in. Candy has been a trend for a while, what with Madonna's album called Hard Candy, and Ralph Lauren's daughter Dylan opening "Dylan's Candy Bar" a candy boutique on Third Avenue in New York.

The candy trends for 2009 are jelly beans, for their irresistible colours and flavors, and retro sweets for the memories. Old fashioned and retro candy continues to comfort the mind and taste buds for those who may be a bit apprehensive about the future.

Hope & greenwood

Over the past few years in London we have seen a crop of old fashioned sweet shops pop up. Hope and Greenwood, in Covent Garden and in East Dulwich and Mrs Kibbles Olde Sweet Shoppe in Soho, and in St Christopher's Place. The sweets are sold by the quarter ounce from rows and rows of shiny glass jars crammed full with such delights as rosy apples, shrimps, jelly babies and flying saucers. It is a childhood dream come true and a delight for those of us who like to colour co-ordinate with sweet candy.

  1. OOOh, I love this picture! My favorite color is pink, and I love to coordinate different candy colors w/ my holiday decorating. Now I'm even into pink candy to keep out during the "non" holiday times to match my dining room decor. Such a lovely image you have captured. What is more welcoming when going to someone's home, than to find a dish of candy just waiting to be eaten?!?

  2. Love this picture! The pink is just so pretty, you really captured it perfectly. I love to "decorate" with candy to match whatver holiday I am decorating for. I'm currently in search of pink/green candy to match my dining room, so I can keep my pretty candy dishes filled all year long. Any suggestions for online shopping or shops in Northern CA?

  14. I can't even begin to tell you how much I love strawberry bonbons!! This pic brought back so many memories...On "Married with Children" they used to refer to these candies...I only actually had my first hit of the stuff about 5 years ago and was "addiCTeD-sOliD" But then the bulk barn discontinued them and I had serious withdrawal. I'm soooo on the hunt from them again...thanks for the memory! Your polyvore set rOcKs!
